On the Go

HEALTH TIP: Most of us are often on the go with a busy lifestyle. If we are not travelling by foot we are at least doing it by car. It often seems that time flies by and because of that some of you may be comforted with bad eating habits or less water intake. To counter this situation, prepare your foods and drinks at home and bring it with you. Buying better quality foods that travel with you easily like apples, bananas, pears as well as things like fresh veggies, hard-boiled eggs, hummus and whole grain crackers, will allow you and your family to eat on the go while keeping it healthy. Same goes for your beverages, bring it with you. Fill your container with the appropriate amount of water you will need for the day, prepare your green tea in the morning and bring yourself a small box of organic smoothie or even nut/cereal milk. By preparing yourself ahead of time, you will eat & drink healthy, keep your immune system strong and of course save money. Although it may take you a bit of time to get use to the idea of preparing drinks and lunches for your fast past life, in the end, you will be happier and healthier for it!

Week 2 / Semaine 2

Week 2: Read a book a month. This may be a tough one, even for me because it is true that life can get pretty busy with family, work, staying healthy and all the rest, but taking time to read can bring you so much. Besides increasing your knowledge of language, it can help you reach goals, open your mind to new ideas, help you understand different subjects, entertain you and even keep that wonderful brain of yours healthy!

Semaine 2: Lire un bouquin par mois. Ceci peux être un peu exigeant pour certain car la vie est assez occupée avec toutes les demandes au niveau du travail, de la famille, pour maintenir la santé, etc. Par contre, prendre le temps de lire peut aussi vous procurer tant de bienfaits. Autre que d’augmenter vos connaissances au niveau du langage, lire pourrait vous aider à atteindre des buts, ouvrir votre esprit à des nouvelles idées, vous aider à comprendre divers sujets, vous divertir and même aider à maintenir ce merveilleux organe qui est votre cerveau en santé!

Butternut Delight

With this cold weather, it is so very nice to sit down to a warm, soothing, beautifully colored and delicious meal.  My favorite on a fast past day is some sort of soup.  Although it is winter, you still want to eat what is in season and root vegetables are by far a great choice.  I especially love this recipe because it is fast, easy, inexpensive, respects great food combinations, so good for you and tastes heavenly. Here is what you will need;

Ingredients:

3 Tbs. of olive oil
1/2 of a butternut squash
1 red Onion
3 celery branches
1/2 a celeriac
4 Cups of water
1 Tbs of Miso (I use gluten-free, rice miso… soooo good!)
Parsley
Herbamare, cayenne pepper and almond milk to taste.

Instructions:

1- Chop up the onion, squash, celery and celeriac and add them to the warmed olive oil in the pan.
2- Fry over hot stove for 3 to 5 mins.
3- Add the water and bring to a boil.
4- Let simmer for about 20 minutes.
5- Add the miso and cook for another 5 minutes or till the veggies are soft.
6- Blend all the ingredients from the soup pan, the Herbamare and pepper together until it is completely smooth.
7- Pour into warm dishes, add a touch of almond milk and parsley to garnish.
