April 2014 Natural Healing Journal

Happy April Fools’ Day!

I have always enjoyed April 1st, but with children, it brings it to a new level! Children are continuously reminding us of the importance of letting go and having fun. Amidst the responsibilities of our busy lifestyle, creating a business, remaining healthy, we sometimes forget just to let loose and live.

Lately, I have been reviewing the Law of Attraction. I have read all the books, listened to all the CDs and seen all the movies. I am a strong believer that the law of attraction does work, but sometimes I question it. Then I find myself asking the Universe very specific questions and being flooded with answers. So, after much reflection, I share this thought with you: if I fill my Being, my entire person with thoughts, emotions and feelings of what and how I want to live, how can I live any other type of life other than the very one I create? We say that life is a mirror. Whatever you are living on the outside is simply a reflection of what you are living on the inside. It is also said that if you want to change your external circumstances, change your internal circumstances, but what is often neglected is the need to specify what and how to do this.

Let’s break it down in point form:

• Know what you want (if you don’t, this is what you need to figure out first).

• Remember a time when you felt amazing (remember a feeling), close or exactly how you wish to feel all the time. If it has never happened to you, create it in your mind.

• Make a list of what you need to accomplish to get you from point A (your starting point) to point B (your goal).

• Put the items on the list in order of priority and assign a time frame to accomplishing each action item.

• Take action now. Remember, you are always in motion. You are either climbing or sliding.

• While accomplishing these tasks, remember to get plenty of sleep, eat healthy, get some fresh air, exercise regularly and have fun!

In other words, going from point A to point B is not merely a destination that you travel to, but it is you re-creating your life, according to your own values. Enjoy the process and always stay true to yourself.

Week 12: Learn to tango. Thanks to the physical movement, creativity and degree of learning involved, it is thought that it increases life span. I am not quite sure if this is fact or fiction, however, I can absolutely guarantee that dancing will make you feel better, happier, free and give you the sense that you are just generally enjoying life a bit more. Make a point of dancing this week and notice if it picks you up or betters your mood. If it does, even just a little, then keep it in your repertoire of pick-me-ups.

March 2014 Natural Healing Journal

Can you feel it? The days are longer, the sun is warmer; it can only mean one thing, spring!!! Most people when they think of spring, think of gardening (which is actually awesome, but more on that another time), putting the boots and winter cloths away, going biking, etc. Personally, when it starts to warm up, I think of cleansing and making sure I am in shape. What do you think? Are you up for the challenge? How about joining me in a cleanse and getting a workout diet on the way?

The Cleanse: There are a few different types of cleanses. One consists of juicing with fresh fruit and vegetables. The other is the complete cessation of food and only sustaining a certain amount of calories with a special lemonade. This is called fasting, it is absolutely wonderful for the body, spirit and mind AND also needs to be done with the supervision of a health professional. Either way, these are great ideas to take on during spring. It is when your body and cleansing organs are most receptive. If you are considering a fast, make sure you have someone that can support you and guide you through the entire process. I would be happy to serve you either in person at the clinic or via the web with Skype or Face Time. Please follow the LINK for more details. Personally, I will be fasting.

The Exercise-Diet: Everyone knows the benefits of exercising, and most people have similar reasons for doing it. Some of us do it to maintain health, others to get healthy, and others do it for other related health reasons such as maintaining a healthy weight size. All of these reasons are great and we all need goals to help motivate us. We also know how busy life can be and getting out and being active is not always as simple as it should be. Here are a few of my suggestions:

1- Don’t under estimate the benefits of a walk (cardio). You can actually burn up to 240 calories per hour by taking a simple pleasure walk. If you wish to increase the calories burnt, simply pick up your pace, add on some extra weight or do a few running sprints during your walk. You will be amazed at what doing this a few times a week can create for you.

2- Learn some yoga. There are many types of yoga out there and you will surely find one that suits your needs and personality. Some can be very soothing and relaxing while others are very demanding and will build your strength. Not only is yoga wonderful for the body but it also calms the mind. It’s like getting a two-for-one. Personally, I love yoga for muscle toning, core stability improvement, strength building and stress reduction. Hatha yoga can burn up to 175 calories per hour, Ashtanga yoga, 300 calories per hour, Vinyasa yoga, 445 calories per hour and Bikram or hot yoga can burn up to 630 calories per hour. I highly recommend this for all the benefits that it brings.

When talking about getting in shape, we often talk about calories. So what are calories exactly? Calories are a way to measure energy just like a pound is a way to measure your weight. The amount of energy you burn in doing an activity is measured by the calories burn rate. How do you burn calories? To burn calories you need to be moving. The more you move and are active, the harder the activity, the greater the calories burnt. Generally, to maintain your weight, the amount of calories you take in should equal p.m. not you burn. If you wish to take off some weight to reach your health goal, you need to burn more calories actually take in. This is why it is important to combine a healthy diet, a balanced lifestyle and some kind of vigorous activity to get in shape and stay healthy.

3- The benefits of weight training. This is another great exercise to tone and strengthen muscles and get fit. Surprisingly enough, you can burn between 400 and 500 calories by weightlifting if you do a vigorous training with little rest tween each set.

Whatever form of exercise you undertake, it is important to choose something that you enjoy. If you take pleasure in doing the exercise, you increase your chances of sticking to the program and reaching your house/weight goals.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: This month, it is with great pleasure and enthusiasm that I encourage you to come in and take advantage of NO TAXES on Health Assessments, Life Coaching sessions and all Health Services.

We are on the way with our Meditation & Wellness Classes. We would love to have you join us for one or as many classes as you wish. Classes are held Wednesday evenings from 7:15 PM to 8:15 PM. February 2014 Natural Healing Journal

Written by Isabelle Giroux ND on . Posted in Blog, Health Journal

The month of love!  Even though it’s one of the coldest months of the year, it is also one of the warmest.  My son says Valentine’s Day is one of his favourite holidays.  It’s because it has to do with loving, sharing and exchanging.  Regardless if you are sharing your life with that special someone or it’s just you, you can still celebrate Valentine’s Day.  Remembering that it’s all about love and giving is key.  Before anyone can give love and acceptance to another, they need to start with themselves.  So if you find yourself at a ‘party for one’ this Valentine’s Day, take advantage of this great opportunity and give yourself love and acceptance

I have been working on this concept for as long as I can remember.  It’s about acknowledging your needs, giving yourself time and permission to live a better life and actually moving out of your comfort zone to reach those goals that are so very important to you.  For those of you that remember my last Health Journal, you know how much I have had to invest in myself in the past few years to get to this point in my life.  So now that I am here, actually at the beginning of this “Love Path”, here are a few pointers that I have learned along the way:

1- If you truly want to enjoy your relationship, focus on what is great, not what could be better.  Thoughts are filled with energy, and whatever you focus on you bring into your life as an energy force.  If you are constantly filling your head with thoughts, words and feelings relating to how badly it could be or has been, this is what you will continue to witness as a reality in your life.  Go ahead, try it!  Create lovely, positive, love-filled scenes, thoughts, emotions and words in your mind.  Let it take over your heart and see how your relationship slowly begins to transform itself.

2- Be honest and open.  This may sound easy enough, but it is not always simple to state what you want & how you feel.  Of course you want to keep in mind that the person listening to you needs to hear what you have to say in a gentle and loving manner, so be kind and considerate with your words, and speak-up!!

3- Decide to put your relationship first.  Being right is not always that important.  Listening is always a good idea and giving a hug when there are no words to say is sometimes the most important thing you can do!

4- Make plans, set goals and do activities together.  If you never spend any time together as a couple, how can you connect and live as a couple?

5- Make time for intimacy.  Touching, hugging, looking at each other, listening and physically loving one another are some of the core elements of a great loving relationship.

6- Live in the present and respect those boundaries.  There’s nothing you can do about the past.  The future is not here yet.  The best way to enjoy your relationship fully and to allow it to expand into greatness is to know yourself, what you want and what you desire and need to live fully and happily, this will help you to respect your spouse’s boundaries as well as your own!

Relationships are like everything else in life, they take time, gentleness, understanding, patience and love.  In the end, the quality of our relationships says a lot about the quality of our lives.  Make it worth your time!!

Week 4, 5 & 6: In this day and age, there seems to be so much technical stuff around us.  It’s important not to feel left out.  Take advantage of the Web and learn something new today!  It doesn’t have to be something technical.  You could simply download an App to keep track of your walking or running maps and miles.  It could be to start using Skype or some other means of communication to see and chat with someone that you miss who lives far away.  Whatever it is that you choose, take the next few weeks to learn and make great strides on the technical stuff that is out there to improve an aspect of your life.

January 2014 Natural Healing Journal

Written by Isabelle Giroux ND on . Posted in Blog, Health Journal

I would like to take this moment to wish you all the very best for 2014!  Make each and every single day of your life filled with happiness, joy, love, abundance and health.

Another wonderful year is upon us, how will you make 2014 grand?  Have you given it some thought?  Have you set some goals?  Personally, I like to take some time to review the past year and see if my life is going in the direction that I wish it to.  Most people reassess their life at the beginning of the new year and I am no different.

Two years ago, my entire life as I knew it exploded into hundreds of different pieces.  Little did I know at the time that it would end up being a blessing in disguise.  It was one of the darkest and most difficult moments of my life.  I had loved ones die, my 10 year relationship ended; I lost my best friend and my home and I nearly lost myself in the process.  Two years later, I can honestly say that I am truly living a good, happy, healthy and well-balanced life.  It was not easy, but with determination, hope, a great mindset and lots of gratitude, I was able to climb out of the valley.  To name just a few things I am grateful for in my life; I was able to triple my business, buy a new home, offer my son the opportunity to continue homeschooling, build positive and profound healthy friendships, discover a sister, a brother and my father, heal my heart and ready myself for love again!  I learnt that success is not a destination, it’s a road that we choose to travel every single day.  To be successful is to recognize our strengths and our ability to create what is important in our lives.

After you have taken some time to review the past year, focus on what you wish to achieve for 2014.  See it, feel it and write it down.  Here are the special “gardens” that I will be working on; career, finances, health, relationships, love and spirituality.  All these areas are already wonderful and I am so grateful for that.  I do however want to bring them to the next level in 2014.  What “gardens” are you going to work on?  What are you prepared to do to make it happen?  These are the important questions to ask yourself at the beginning of the year.  See it as a gift, make great use of your time and enjoy it fully!!

Please join me this year in meeting 52 Weeks of Challenges that will push us out of our comfort zone.  It is at this level that we grow as individuals.  It is in trying new things that we discover ourselves. These ideas may help boost your creativity, add little bit of zest to your life or simply help you remember your true self.  I look forward to growing with you!

December ’13 Natural Healing Journal

Written by Isabelle Giroux ND on . Posted in Blog, Health Journal

Well, we have finally made it out of November and into this wonderful last month of the year! Would you like to finish the year with a bang? If you have some unfinished business for 2013, December is the month to roll up your sleeves and get to it.  Do you feel you have to much to accomplish in too little time? Do you lack the resources or the motivation to get started, to keep it going or to get it done? If this sounds familiar to you, here are a few things that could help you finish off the year in style!

– Review your goals. Is what you set as priority during the year still important to you? We only make time for what is truly important to us.

– Take time to check in with your emotions. If you have goals that don’t inspire and motivate you, it will be tough to get anything accomplished. Create excitement for yourself even before you get started with this goal.

– Have you taken the time to map out all the steps that need to be taken to get from A to B? To get to a particular destination it is always important to know which steps need to be taken and when.

– Is there something in particular that you are procrastinating on? Usually, we procrastinate on things that push us out of our comfort zone. However, this is exactly how we grow as a person; stepping out of our comfort zone. Go ahead, take a chance and go for it!

– Are you stuck in a valley? All of us have visited a valley at some point in our life, the trick is not to stay there. Life is change! It is a form of energy that is continually moving and evolving. There are several different reasons why we visit the valley but there is only one real way to get out of that valley. You have to take action. When you are taking action, it brings about a sense of empowerment. With that sense of empowerment will come “good” feelings (emotions) which will inspire and help you climb out of the valley and back onto the mountain. Take some kind of action right NOW and let your sense of enthusiasm take over and propel you in the direction that you truly want to be going.

If you had a chance to drop by any of our meditation classes, you were able to witness firsthand how truly amazing meditation is for the mind/body/soul. Thank you to everyone that participated in our classes, you made and continue to make them absolutely amazing! We have now moved into the Meditation & Movement classes. These classes were created to help individuals find balance in their lives. Our minds have become too busy and caught up in worrying thoughts and our bodies too quiet and sedentary. For ultimate health, we want to quiet the mind and activate the body. The Meditation & Movement class teaches us how to achieve this. If you would like to join in, we still have two classes before the end of the semester; December 4 and 11th. Please email or call me to reserve your spot today.

For information on the class, click HERE.

For pictures of our last class, click HERE.

Often, people solicit my help regarding their eating habits. It is not an easy task to prepare tasty meals that everyone in the family will enjoy, using fresh ingredients and respecting proper food combinations. It is even tougher to pull that off with a simple recipe and have the food on the table within 20 to 30 minutes. Rest assured though, it is possible!! Here is a fun, healthy and easy recipe that the entire family will enjoy.

Click HERE for all the details.

HEALTH TIP: Okay, it’s December, and with December comes over eating, terrible food combinations and of course tummy-aches! To avoid this and make the best of every single day; you want to make sure that you are properly hydrated. One of the best ways to accomplish this is to drink two full glasses of water upon rising in the morning. Again before starting to cook lunch and two more glasses before cooking supper. Secondly, you’ll want to eat your servings of fruit before or between meals, NEVER after. Eating fresh fruit after meals simply creates bloating, bad digestion and promotes pain. It’s anything but healthy! Do your best to minimize drinking with your meal. Instead try to keep it for before or save it for afterwards. If it is possible, combine proteins with vegetables OR starches with vegetables. Keep away from mixing too many proteins and starches. If it’s near impossible for you, because it’s just too darn yummy, supplement with a digestive aid to be assured that the meal will support you, not put you to sleep!

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: Congratulations to Denise Stilmann on winning the free reflexology session for Liking & Sharing my business page on Facebook.
