The month of love! Even though it’s one of the coldest months of the year, it is also one of the warmest. My son says Valentine’s Day is one of his favourite holidays. It’s because it has to do with loving, sharing and exchanging. Regardless if you are sharing your life with that special someone or it’s just you, you can still celebrate Valentine’s Day. Remembering that it’s all about love and giving is key. Before anyone can give love and acceptance to another, they need to start with themselves. So if you find yourself at a ‘party for one’ this Valentine’s Day, take advantage of this great opportunity and give yourself love and acceptance.
I have been working on this concept for as long as I can remember. It’s about acknowledging your needs, giving yourself time and permission to live a better life and actually moving out of your comfort zone to reach those goals that are so very important to you. For those of you that remember my last Health Journal, you know how much I have had to invest in myself in the past few years to get to this point in my life. So now that I am here, actually at the beginning of this “Love Path”, here are a few pointers that I have learned along the way:
1- If you truly want to enjoy your relationship, focus on what is great, not what could be better. Thoughts are filled with energy, and whatever you focus on you bring into your life as an energy force. If you are constantly filling your head with thoughts, words and feelings relating to how badly it could be or has been, this is what you will continue to witness as a reality in your life. Go ahead, try it! Create lovely, positive, love-filled scenes, thoughts, emotions and words in your mind. Let it take over your heart and see how your relationship slowly begins to transform itself.
2- Be honest and open. This may sound easy enough, but it is not always simple to state what you want & how you feel. Of course you want to keep in mind that the person listening to you needs to hear what you have to say in a gentle and loving manner, so be kind and considerate with your words, and speak-up!!
3- Decide to put your relationship first. Being right is not always that important. Listening is always a good idea and giving a hug when there are no words to say is sometimes the most important thing you can do!
4- Make plans, set goals and do activities together. If you never spend any time together as a couple, how can you connect and live as a couple?
5- Make time for intimacy. Touching, hugging, looking at each other, listening and physically loving one another are some of the core elements of a great loving relationship.
6- Live in the present and respect those boundaries. There’s nothing you can do about the past. The future is not here yet. The best way to enjoy your relationship fully and to allow it to expand into greatness is to know yourself, what you want and what you desire and need to live fully and happily, this will help you to respect your spouse’s boundaries as well as your own!
Relationships are like everything else in life, they take time, gentleness, understanding, patience and love. In the end, the quality of our relationships says a lot about the quality of our lives. Make it worth your time!!
Week 4, 5 & 6: In this day and age, there seems to be so much technical stuff around us. It’s important not to feel left out. Take advantage of the Web and learn something new today! It doesn’t have to be something technical. You could simply download an App to keep track of your walking or running maps and miles. It could be to start using Skype or some other means of communication to see and chat with someone that you miss who lives far away. Whatever it is that you choose, take the next few weeks to learn and make great strides on the technical stuff that is out there to improve an aspect of your life.
