Day 5: 8 Day FAST/CLEANSE DIARY

Written by Isabelle Giroux ND on . Posted in Blog, Challenge, Cleansing, Detox, Healthy Living

Day 5: I am finishing off day 5 and I am very pleased with all the changes and harmony created from the cleanse. I am actually quite surprised how easy it really is. When it gets tough, I simply remind myself that like everything else, it is a question of time and this too shall pass (the time till I get to eat again). I am surprised at how little I am actually feeling hungry. When I feel real hunger, it is either time for my psyllium intake or I have a great big sip of my special cleanse lemonade. Right away my stomach feels full and I am good. I also found that smelling food that I usually enjoy eating, gives me the feeling that I just had a meal. This also is helpful. We eat for some many reasons other than the real need to feed ourselves. We eat for distraction, for emotional reasons, for entertainment, for comfort and even as a reward. Doing a fast/cleanse has made me aware of this. If I feel I need a break, I take a real break and not a small bite (thinking I am hungry as to give myself permission to slow down for a bit is not the answer). Mind you, I don’t usually do this purposely, it just happens and now, because I am fasting, it has allowed me to really notice it. Finally, the main reason I am not having any issues with food, feeling quite relaxed and enjoying the process is because of my decision. I purposefully decided to fast. I set a very well defined goal and the reasons behind that goal. It is these pushing factors that are behind the feelings of ease and happiness during this time.

I do have to add, that late last night, I did get a food craving. To cope with it, I went to bed! I also want to add, my weak spot are evenings. When all is done and quiet in the house and I am alone with myself, I sometimes use to reward myself for a great and productive day with some kind of treat, like wine or a hot piece of toast. Well, these extra calories are not necessary, or healthy or even rewarding. I will need to find a healthy replacement for that reward!

I love having extra time on my hands. It is amazing how much time goes into the entire process of food. Don’t get me wrong, I love to eat and I love the entire ceremony around food. But when fasting/cleansing, it is imperative to find positives EVERYWHERE! Aside the extra time, the cleansing of the entire body, the extra energy, the weight loss, there is this great clarity that I never seem to get even when I eat super healthy and raw (which for me is as healthy as I can get). While fasting/cleansing I feel closer to my authentic Self. I hear better… maybe it is because I listen better or I am predisposed during this time to hear better, I’m not sure. All I know, is I love what Self has given me so far as direction. It was another goal for this cleanse; to clean and get clear.

Tonight will be an early evening because although I was in bed by 9h20, I was up at 4h20 am. I did stay in bed past that time, but just couldn’t get back to sleep. I know it is the extra energy from the cleanse/fast. Like everything else in life, we get to choose what but not always when…

Day 4: 8 Day Fast/Cleanse Diary

Written by Isabelle Giroux ND on . Posted in Blog, Challenge, Cleansing, Detox

Day 4: I have to say that I am pretty proud of myself. I am staying on course and I am looking forward to this weekend because I have made plans to get down and serious with my goals and my objectives. I have a great feeling that this cleanse runs much deeper than just physical.

Speaking of which, after drinking two cups of the herbal laxative blend, constipation was no more! Unfortunately the issue cleared up during my very much needed night-time sleep. However, I do feel so much better and plan on staying on track with proper bowel movements. As for the clay itself, I have started to add a bit back to my regime. I was using 5 ml, which was clearly too much. I brought it down to 2.5 ml 3 times a day and still it seemed to be too much. I am now going for an even smaller amount. I will also let the 5 ml settle. I love the extra energy the clay is bringing, but proper bowel movements are a must especially during a cleanse.

The other great observation I have made is regarding stress. It is absent from my life. I feel I have as much energy as I usually do, however I have taken on less and I am not following an exercise program. Also, I am getting to bed around 9 pm and getting up at 6h30 am. These things are very different from my regular lifestyle. I usually exercise every day, am also on the go and get to bed around 11 pm. I want to make sure I can go for the long haul with this cleanse, so I am putting all my chances on my side and staying quiet. As far as stress level goes, I feel calmer than I have in a very long time. Even this spring, during my fast/detox, I was not this calm. I love the feeling of stillness, faith and living in the moment. It may be because I truly wanted to take this cleanse on, along with everything that comes with a cleanse.

So I can honestly say that today is a good day. I was able to work all day long in the clinic offering different health therapies and even coaching. I was calm, focused and so very happy!

Day 2: My 8 Day Fast/Cleanse Diary

Day 2: I am now on day two of my cleanse. I am feeling very well, although I can tell the difference in participating in a cleanse during the warmer months as oppose to now (Nov.). I can more easily feel the cold and have a greater sense of cocooning. I have been doing cleanses since my first year of college when I was only 17. So we can safely say I have quite a bit of experience behind my belt, but it is important to know that all cleanses are felt and lived differently even if one is repeating the same protocol.

So why did I choose to do a cleanse now even if it is very late in the year? This is because I didn’t feel comfortable in my body and I have been through some major milestones and felt it was time to start a new chapter. Cleanses for me, have always been a way to get rid of the old and accept the new. And I can truly tell that my entire being is grateful for this ‘down’ time to recuperate, clean and repair. As I mentioned beforehand, I usually prefer to do cleanses in the spring. After all, it is when everything comes alive again, when our favorite detox plants (dandelions) come to life and when we as humans feel our energy level rise up. Don’t get me wrong, one can experience all these things pretty much at any time of the year, but for many different reasons, spring is THE best time.

So what am I doing to keep busy and my mind off food? The same as usual I guess. It is actually easier to focus on the fasting part of the cleanse then one might think. I have my special lemonade to keep me going, I have my psyllium and montmorillonite to help in the cleansing and detox portion. I also use my Detox herbal tea blend that you can find HERE. To that, I add my regular vitamins, minerals and health practice. Well, in all honesty because my goal is to have a longer cleanse, I am limiting my exercising. Last spring during my cleanse, I was able to do full out exercise sessions, but I was also focusing on doing a 4 day cleanse with a liver detox. This time, I am not sure I am going to go for a liver detox. It is demanding on the body and I am truly not certain to want to undertake that during these colder days.

For the moment, I am taking it one day at a time and we will see how it plays out. Staying open and allowing oneself to live a positive experience is what makes the entire difference in accomplishing a great cleanse.

See you tomorrow for more power of Fasting!

Day 3 – 4 of Fasting

Written by Isabelle Giroux ND on . Posted in Blog

It is done, I feel wonderful and it went so well!!

Day 3 went surprisingly well even after my huge liver cleanse of the night before. I have been fasting and cleansing for the past 20 years so all what it entails is usually no surprise to me.
Anyone that knows me, also knows how I love to try new things. Although I was a bit fearful to take on this new liver cleanse, I did it without hesitation. Can you imagine tossing down 250 ml of olive oil and grape fruit juice? Yeah, it was challenging, but luckily for me I knew how important it was to hold my nose when doing it so I didn’t really have to taste it. The thickness of the oil was plenty!!

Of course it didn’t end just there. There is an entire protocol to follow but in all honesty, I think a few days of cleansing to rid the liver and gallbladder of all it’s toxins and stones is well worth it!

This is a great picture which actually gives you an idea of how the stones circulate in the liver and gallbladder. It can be quite painful if there are some big stones but when following protocol and with the support of a natural health practitioner, you will be fine.

During the fast, it is always a great idea to receive some cleansing therapies. Massages, lymphatic drainage and colonics are at the top of that list. Usually I get at lease two colonics. This time, because my fast was shorter and following the detailed steps in the cleanse, I really did not need a colonic in the middle of my fast. I did however get a colonic before reintroducing food into my diet and another colonic one week after the fast/cleanse was done.

Day 4 was my last day and when I reintroduced food into my daily diet. I can honestly say I was in no big hurry to start eating again. I was still probably full from all that oil from the two previous nights. Upon waking, I was able to rid myself of more stones and prepare for my day. I decided not to work out the morning because I was feeling a bit more tired. I prepared more ” special lemonade”, had my colonic and started eating some red grapes around 2 pm. From there my digestive system started working wonderfully well once again and I felt rested, calm and grateful that it was done!!

Even after 20 years of fasting/cleanses, this is what you read one of the things you read your body. I think fasting/cleansing is a wonderful way to keep your entire body healthy and your mind clear. I would definitely recommend it to anyone that is not severely sick, pregnant or breast-feeding. Do make sure that you have the support of a natural health care provider to assist you in this. Although the protocol is easy enough to do on your own, you want to maximize this time to get as much as you can out of it and a coach will help you do that. As for this new liver cleanse, I think I will keep it but I will tweak it!

Day 1 and 2 of Fasting

Written by Isabelle Giroux ND on . Posted in Blog, Cleansing, Health News, Healthy Living, Life Coaching, Natural Healing

Do you do cleanses or fasts? If you are into a healthy lifestyle then knowing about detox can be a plus.

image

Yesterday I did Day 1 of my fast. I have been doing these for about 20 years now, so fasting and cleanses are nothing new. What is new is the the experience I live each and every time. I find detox to be very much like everyday life; each one similar but with some small extraordinary differences. Each fast has been unique in its own. Some have been very physical, where I was so tired and could feel every organ of my body detoxing. Others where more emotional and spiritual. I felt it more in my Soul and in my emotions then in my body. Don’t get me wrong, each one has a physical impact and the goal each and every time is to purify the body, rid it of it’s toxins and feel rejuvenated. Plus the perks are pretty nice too (weight loss and extra energy).

Fasting is serious business and so is cleansing. I would only recommend them with the supervision of a health care professional. Besides, it’s really nice to make the best of this time; get as much cleaned and cleared out and have that extra support. This, you can only get with supervised care.

When I fast, I always supplement with herbal remedies, a cleansing lemonade (which I like to call it) and some extra health services like colonics. I usually also add in a liver cleanse and blood cleanse. If I am going to fast, I am going to get the whole deal!

So yesterday, I started it with a bang! When I went down to the clinic to get my cayenne tincture (I also make these products), the top of the jar was not fasten properly and my entire 1 liter of cayenne extract came crashing to the floor, not to mention everywhere on me and on the clinic furniture. I can assure you that this kind of tincture burns, so in a flash, the wet close come off and the cleaning began. All my products are made in 8% apple cider vinaiger so the smell of the tincture was strong! Both my son and I had little red eyes! Fortunately I was able to save about half a cup of the tincture, just enough for my special ‘lemonade’.

The rest of the day was pretty eventless. I was able to workout as planned (doing week 5 of T25) and participate in all my normal activities. I even set some time aside to cook my son a special meal and to have playtime together. No need for both of us not to enjoy great food. Mind you, I have not always been able to do this because being around food when you are fasting is tough.

Now today Day 2, I am still feeling really great. No fight with any tincture and more R & R time with my son made all of it great. I was able to workout and do my usual routine plus I have no desire for food, which is great. I have found that eating, especially over eating is a very emotional thing. When someone chooses to fast, they do it for health reasons and this will help in reducing the need for food. Luckily, my stomach is pretty much always full. It has the herbal remedies as well as the ‘lemonade’.
A bonus, I have taken off 4 pounds and I am feeling wonderful.

Tonight I am trying a new liver cleanse. I am a bit nervous because I know these cleanses can be tough. My usual one is tough, and now I am tripling the concentration of olive oil and adding a few more ingredients and medicinal plants. I know that it will all be good, but I am still anxious for it. One of my great friends said to me, ‘If it scares you, you need to do it’. So this is following your on her advise!

I will keep you posted on the outcome!
